Gather ‘round the campfire in Riverside Park for an evening of Musical Storytelling, Folk Singing, pickin’ and grinnin'! Folks of all ages are encouraged to attend and participate in this hootin’ and hollerin' family affair.
The evening will begin with original songs & stories by Eli - tales of travel, humanity, and treasures of the natural world. After which, he will open the circle for good old fashioned hootenanny. All together now! Bring your voices, acoustic instruments if you please (harmonicas, washboards, gitars, fiddles, banjos…) your dancing feet, or just your ears. There will be a few instruments provided (a tambourine, shakers, a washtub bass, ukuleles…) that all are welcome to use.
Folk Music is a living tradition based on an ever-amassing and everchanging collection of the commonfolk's stories. It is an intergenerational conversation throughout time, in which we all have a voice, weaving the past with the present and changing the future. Music for the people, by the people. Take part in the magic of this age old oral tradition as we rekindle songs that have been passed down for generations. The songs are intuitive for folks of all ages and abilities to pick up and there may well be some you already know. For a good song, all you need are two chords and the truth. Sing it with others and it’s a Folk Song.
See you around the campfire.
